Busting Hair Myths

It has been believed that scalp diseases spread by sharing combs and brushes. Yes, this is true because when you share brushes, combs or other hair care tools there is a fair chance of lice and other parasites getting transported from scalp to scalp. So better to have comb for personal use only. People who often go for color treatment or bridal makeup have this fear that color treatment will cause hair loss. No, this is false because if used properly then there is no chance of occurrence of hair loss. However, one needs to remember that most of the hair color products available in salon or market contain chemicals that can be really dangerous if not used properly.

There is this long existing myth about hair loss if you stand in sun light for long duration. Again, this is far from truth. The reality is hair acts as shield against harsh sun rays. Whenever hair loss occurs it occurs at follicle level. That means, if sun has to do any damage to your hair then it will have to penetrate that depth. It has been often said that, using tight braids or buns or ponytails cause hair loss and ultimately baldness. Yes, this is true and has been found in older African American women. Known as ‘Traction Alopecia’ that is a hair loss condition, it happens because of wearing tight ponytails and braids over a long duration. This causes stress and tension in hair and they start breaking down. So make sure to use looser styles so that there will be less tension and stress in your beautiful hair.
